Erosion Control at Brinwood & La Vista

Erosion control between Havana and El Paso 2015

In the early 1990s, residents of the Dawson Neighborhood came together due to their concern that TXDOT’s plans for Ben White would cause erosion along the banks of East Bouldin Creek. While at the time the only concession the neighbors received from the city was a promise for flood control, now some 20+ years later we are at last getting some erosion control projects.

The newest effort by the City of Austin to prevent erosion in the our section of East Bouldin Creek is now underway between Havana and El Paso in the section of the creek that runs behind the houses that face Brinwood and Fontana. Another example can be seen on both sides of the Cumberland Road bridge. Included in some of this work was a re-working under the El Paso bridge to create a path for the snapping turtles to cross under the bridge rather than forcing them up to the street to traverse the creek.
